researchLLS announces new video feature Brian Druker, M.D.Brian Druker videoLLS and Brian Druker, M.D., director of OHSU Knight Cancer Institute at Oregon Health and Science University, have had a long and fruitful partnership.LLS supported Druker's early pioneering work that led to the development of a novel enzyme inhibitor now known as Gleevec®, which is saving countless lives of patients with chronic myeloid leukemia, and helping patients with other types of cancer as well.  In recent years Druker has turned his attention to acute myeloid leukemia and other types of leukemia, and through our Specialized Center of Research program, LLS has continued to support his work.LLS has unveiled this video, posted on the LLS.org  video gallery , in which Druker talks about how the early funding from LLS helped him at a critical juncture in his research, when he was trying to translate a laboratory discovery to clinical application. Druker says that when people ask him where they should donate their money he tells them that The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society is one of the best investments of your funds. "LLS is making an impact and accelerating progress."The video can also be viewed on our YouTube Channel.Read more here.Back to top  Ivan Borello, Johns Hopkins Cancer CenterLLS and johns hopkins collaborate on a phase II clinical trial to advance innovative immunotherapy for multiplemyeloma patientsLLS and Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine are collaborating on a novel immunotherapy approach to treat patients with poor prognosis myeloma. The approach shows promise for patients with other blood cancers as well.Under the leadership of Ivan Borrello, M.D., Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center, a team of researchers is testing a method using marrow-infiltrating lymphocytes (MILs) - immune T cells that are specifically trained to recognize and kill myeloma cells. MILs are produced from a patient's own bone marrow cells, expanded outside of the patient and then infused back into the patient following an autologous stem cell transplant.Learn more about this project here.Back to top mf challenge grantsMPN LogoThe MPN Research Foundation and LLS are proud to announce the winners of the second round of the MF Challenge grant program. patient access, education & advocacyUnitedHealthcare Childrens Foundationhelping pediatric cancer patients and their families in times of needLLS is helping the UnitedHealthcare Children's Foundation (UHCCF) get the word out about a program that is an important resource for many of the patients and families served by LLS.LLS wants its community to know that UHCCF, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of children's lives, provides grants up to $5,000 to help families in need of financial assistance pay for their child's health care treatments, services or equipment not covered, or not fully covered by their commercial health insurance plan. The plan only applies to patients who are covered by a commercial health insurance plan and families must meet certain economic guidelines. Families who receive government health coverage are ineligible. To qualify for a grant, children must be 16 years of age or younger and reside in the U.S. These grants are available for medical expenses families have incurred 60 days prior to the date of the application as well as for ongoing and future medical needs."This program is an invaluable resource for many of the families served by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society," said Scott Riccio, LLS's senior vice president of patient access, education and advocacy. "The last thing a family needs when coping with their child's serious diagnosis is worrying about how they are going afford to access the care their child needs. This program helps to fill a significant gap for many families."Parents or legal guardians may apply for grants at www.uhccf.org and there is no application deadline.Back to top education programsArchived Patient Education PorgramsListen to past patient education programs that cover important blood cancer topics ranging from new treatments to how to deal with practical financial issues.Archived Virtual Lectures for CE CreditVirtual lectures are available to healthcare professionals for continuing education credit.WebcastsFree videos for patients, caregivers and healthcare providers about survivorship, financial health matters, disease updates and other topics.NEW Advances in Blood Cancers-Update on CMLupdated publicationsPain Management FactsInformación sobre el manejo del dolorThe Myeloma Guide: Information for Patients and CaregiversMyelomaFree Education MaterialsCo-Pay Assistance ProgramThe Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's Co-Pay Assistance Program helps eligible patients pay insurance premiums and meet co-pay obligations.CML BlogBack to top
